Fmr EPA Admins refuse to back Obama's statements on climate chng before Congress

When Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) on Wednesday asked four former Environmental Protection Agency chiefs to raise their hands if they believe, as President Barack Obama recently claimed, that the temperature around the world is “increasing faster than was predicted,” none of them raised their hand.[/quote
[quote]Sessions noted that Obama said in 2012 that the “temperature around the globe is increasing faster than was predicted, even ten years ago,” The president then doubled down on the claim last year, saying “We also know that the climate is warming faster than anybody anticipated five or ten years ago.”

“So, I would ask each of our former Administrators if any of you agree that that’s an accurate statement on the climate. So if you do, raise your hand,” Sessions instructed.
His request was followed by silence and zero raised hands. The EPA administrators, who previously served in Republican administrations, were reportedly invited by Democrats to testify on the Obama administration’s energy policies.
“Thank you, the record will reflect no one raised their hand,” the GOP senator said.

LOL
That is the kind of attitude politicians in Washington need to have. Call bullshite and get it on the record.

Is this supposed to be surprising? What's your point?

Because they just recently endorsed action on global warming. President Obama then used that endorsement and gave the speech saying that temperatures were rising even faster than expected. This guy in Congressman was calling Obama out on that false statement.

Gotcha. I didn't see where they had endorsed these policies previously.

Its no worse than the denialist data cherry picking to point out that the annual average rose at a rate of 2.5 C/century from 2011-2013.

didn't you JUST start a fricking thread about one month being warmer than the past and try to use that as proof for "climate change"?
OH YEAH...YOU DID

I'm not a scientist, don't play one on TV, and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. But even my dumb arse has enough brain cells to realize that the earth has been warming and cooling since it got here. And ALL of those cycles started and ended without much help from us.
I can't believe people still argue about this shite.

Probably just ran to MSNBC or Dummycrats Underground to pick up a few talking points so he can come back here and go all scientist-y on us.

So some Republicans disagreed and you and Glen Beck think that's a gotcha? Hmmm... let's see if Obama was basing that statement on scientists....

The projected rise is about three times as much as estimated in the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2007, which did not fully include the effects of ice loss from Greenland and Antarctica. To avoid such a large sea level rise, which would be an existential threat to many large coastal cities as well as a number of small island nations, drastic and rapid cuts in greenhouse gas emissions will be required.
quote:LINK
Now it appears that the assessment was too optimistic. The latest data from across the globe show that the planet is changing faster than expected.
I'll give you, Sessions and the Republicans a break... this came from two science publications. We know your aversion to science.

That is from a December 2009 story entitled "Sea level could rise from 0.75 to 1.9 meters this century" (emphasis added)

This one is from November 2012 entitled "Is Global Warming Happening Faster Than Expected?"
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
In addition to the additional data developed since these stories (such as 5 more years of flat or declining "global" temperatures, as well as the fact that Antarctic and Arctic sea ice has been increasing and that Antarctic glacial metling is likely due to volcanism), NEITHER of these articles represent that these things ARE happening, only that they MAY BE happening.
Now...compare the speculative nature of the articles with the absolute certainty of Obama's statements.

Antarctic sea ice has grown to a record large extent for a second straight year, baffling scientists seeking to understand why this ice is expanding rather than shrinking in a warming world.
On Saturday, the ice extent reached 19.51 million square kilometers, according to data posted on the National Snow and Ice Data Center Web site. That number bested record high levels set earlier this month and in 2012 (of 19.48 million square kilometers). Records date back to October 1978.
