On short notice, I am going on a vacation of my choosing. My options as of now are:

1) Go with a buddy to central america (probably fly into panama) and make our way north through the other countries. He would be there for 9 days, then I would go on my own for the next week or so, and fly back from somewhere else (like mexico city)

2) Go on a solo trip for 14-17 days to cambodia and vietnam.

3) Any other suggestions? Would probably be solo (27/M/not single)

Both options sound great. I will be leaving soon, within the next 10 days, and haven't done any planning (doesn't bother me though). So going to central america would definitely be easier and less stressful, and I would be with a buddy, but I'm not sure if I'll have the opportunity to go to asia anytime soon.

Whatcha say?

You're traveling the wrong direction brother, Central America and Mexico are not places you want to go.

If you want to do something like that, go to South America and check out Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, etc. I just got back from Colombia a week ago, it was really nice.

I vote Central America with your bro. Would be way more fun than.traveling alone. Unless you're going on some soul searching pilgrimage.

Panama and Costa Rica are tough to beat. Both are very pretty and tons of stuff to do.

Yeah I wouldn't mind going there. Two people I know took their honeymoons there and their pics were amazing.

Both of them rode elephants in the jungle....now that looks awesome.

Lack of resources/accommodation and crime.

Panama, Costa Rica, and Belize are safe.

Nicaragua is run by Ortega and the Sandinistas.

Honduras has the highest intentional homicide rate in the world, with El Salvador right behind them in 2nd.

Guatemala is a shite hole.

Mexico is in horrible shape right now.

You could stay in CR the entire time. Go all over the country and explore the different areas(volcano, rainforests, beach, etc). Safer, cheaper and you wouldn't get bored.

Once you get past the border states and towards the center of the country, it's not bad

This guy's plan was to ride his motorcycle across Mexico, they still haven't found him.

He's reportedly been captured by guerillas.
