You will find both there.

Quality aside.

I have lived down here for 13 years and still don't understand Bayview. Open, closed at random time, sometime for months on end... I would drive down the road a little for food and drink. Saritas (very good Mexican) is a nice stop to eat on the Diverison, as is Hillop (seafood)

Also a little closer to French Settlement is Junior Meat market. They have some aged meat and make great jerky...

A lot of those small river places are like that. Val's is closed this month because the owners are on vacation. They close for vacations, family events, or when they're damaged by floods or storms. They nearly always come back, though, in one form or another.

My favorites out that way are Val's, Swamp Pop, Hilltop, and Kevin's (for the fried gator)

Coming here to say this.

Everything they fry is good though, not just gator.

Hilltop is always closing for something. I recommend checking their facebook page before driving out for dinner...

Agreed, but the gator is the only thing that's heads and shoulders above the nearby competition. Everything fried is good there, though. They also have this appetizer called crawfish beignets which are really globs of crawfish, cheese, cream, and bacon battered and fried like a boudin ball. Incredibly decadent.

Hilltop for fried shrimp.

Saritas is some of the best Mexican in the Baton Rouge area...

I need to go back there. It's just so out of the way for me. My SO is allergic to corn, so she doesn't eat Mexican Food and my oldest brother doesn't care much for it either. That means not nearly enough tex mex for the king

Wednesday night at Kevin's 10 oz ribeye for $13 and Hilltop has all you can eat fired catfish for $12. Dutch's used to have all you can eat shrimp and dungeness crabs for $25, but I have not been there in years so I don't know if they still have that special.

That's almost as inconvenient just going the other way It will be nice for grabbing a bite to eat with my buddies before/during/after FNM at Gamer's Paradise.

The Spanky's in Head of Island, between Swamp Pop and Kevins. The only thing that saved me before was the drive down River Highlands. Now I will have to pass it almost everyday...

Ohh...I thought you meant the Spanky's in Prarieville. Ok, that will be slightly more convenient. Any idea what will be taking Sarita's place at the end of the Diversion?

No idea, the people along River Highlands don't like all the car traffic, I think they will fight anything new though they did open the Tiki Hut back up...

My how things have changed since the one armed Joe days.

I stood on a bunch of old refrigerators laid down on their sides inside Bayview with flood water about halfway up them drinking whiskey in the 1982 or 83 flood.

When I first moved down here in 2001, Hilltop was a bar that served burgers and fries. It was all locals and if anyone walked in they was not a regular, they all turned and stared you down. There could have been dead bodies in the dark back corner and no one would have noticed or cared.

Not like that now...
