I'm setting up lots of Thinkpads in my office now. They're OK machines.

One big drawback: The newest models (I'm setting up the E440s now) have a trackpad without buttons. So for a right click, you depress the corner of the trackpad. Doesn't work well. I'm sending out all these new laptops with mice.

So check to see if your model has buttons with the trackpad.

We just got a load of 440p, and no one wants them for this reason..

Around $1100. The 8GB ram and long battery life are what appealed to me.

I want to stick around $1000. Do you have any recommendations? I just want a powerful business laptop (I only really run Excel, Word and Chrome) with good battery life.

No problem..They also offer 430s with an i7. We've only recently gone away from them, and it is only because they started sending the newer 440.

One last thing, how hard is it to add more RAM to a laptop? Is it something I could figure out with the help of youtube videos or should a professional do that?

Ones like these are really easy. There is a panel on the bottom that only access the second RAM slot. One screw to open, put new RAM in, close.
