OT Photographers - What do you use for editing?

Do any of you use photoshop? Not sure it is worth the price. I do have photoshop elements 12 and use lightroom.

I suck at photo editing.
I have Photoshop elements and I downloaded a trial of ACDsee Pro.
Photoshop Elements is incredibly frustrating, because you can "almost" do everything the full program has to offer. All of the How To stuff on the internet is for the full version of Photoshop.
I'd love to hear what others use

Lightroom. I have PS but don't use it usually.
And not to be a dick, but that post-processing shot looks very processed. The original's clarity isn't great, and I don't think the processing is much of an improvement.
Is it HDR? I don't think so, but it almost looks that way.

Are photoshop and lightroom that much better than gimp? I've played around with gimp to retouch some photos for fun, but was wondering what it is missing.

So, in conclusion, you can take a pic of anything and make it look like anything else.

If you shoot in RAW, to some extent you're just bringing out data that was captured in the original. But yes, you can process things to the point where they don't really resemble the subject.
I can't tell you how often I see people shooting weddings with start-up photography businesses, and the work is just processed to shite. It's pretty sad, really.

Nope....actually all I did was increase Clarity on the columns, increased the black/white levels, lowered exposure on the grass and took out the pole and wire. It wasn't a RAW file, so couldn't do a lot with it.

Lightroom is photoshop repackaged for photographers. It puts everything you need in a column of sliders, it allows very easy batch processing (copy/paste) and is a great organization/export tool.

My next question. It looks like an edited jpg.
I'm a minimal processor. I'll very rarely change the exposure, but mostly I crop, edit the saturation a little, and I may make a few small clarity adjustments.
I used to spend a good deal of time trying to turn my average or bad photos into something interesting, but now I just toss them. If it is a subject I really like, sometimes a good BW conversion will save it.

Lightroom for RAW file manipulation of color, contrast, sharpness, etc.
Then to Photoshop if needed for re-touching shots and saving for the web.

This right here. The best shot is one that was taken correctly the first time so you aren't spending all your time squinting at your monitor.
It's why I will never stop preaching at how you don't usually need a fancy DSLR to take quality shots. If you know what you're doing, yes one can help, but all the PS work in the world won't save a bad shot taken with an expensive camera.

No, but RAW support for other cameras may be an issue. But I know what you're saying.
I have DSLRs, and I started by shooting manual film SLRs. My most common camera, though, is a Sony RX100. Now it's obviously a high end compact, but it's not a professional camera. Nonetheless, it allows me to have a camera more often, which has resulted in far better shots.

Get Adobe creative cloud. Its 10 bucks a month and you can download any of adobe's programs. It costs less that buying PS and you get LR or any other of Adobe's soft ware. Also, when the new versions come out, you get em!
