The bigger sizes are a little more expensive than normal this year. Bought 20# of 21-25 at the dock for $4/lb on Saturday.

I got hosed for $5.95/lb 16-20's at the dock. They are pricey this year

I don't I was asking the question to get clarification for someone that might have answers.

We really need a shrimp boat connection or 2 for the board. Anyone know shrimpers that can supply in bulk?

I used to get them from a guy in Albany. Haven't called him in a year or so.

Before stopping at the dock I saw a guy tying up his boat and asked what he had and he offered to fill my ice chest for $125, though all he had was 40-50's and I asked if he had any bigger he told me he had sold all of his jumbos and was getting $5/lb for his 16-20's at the dock. Which is really crazy because in past few years I've bought directly from the boat at $2-3/lb for that size.

They are getting a lot higher for their shrimp to the docks than in past years. Shrimp imports coming into the USA are way down and this along with lower gulf production has caused shrimp to rise a good bit.

Boat price (my brother runs a shrimp factory in Delcambre) right now for head on shrimp are:

9-12= $5.80
10-15= $5.40
16-20= $4.80

Expect $1.50-$3.00/lb higher at the seafood markets above that.

Shrimp are very higj rigjt now.

My hookup hasnt been bothering with street sales. Hes selling straight to the dock as are a lot of other shrimpers that normally do street sales.

With diesel around $4 you still have to catch a few to break even.

It's the best prices I have seen to the fisherman all my life. In the early 80's think they used to get around $4-$5/lb for 10-15 and 16-20's but diesel was also like $.25 a gallon also.

You mean shrimpers have a weekly Monday morning meeting to establish the talking points for the high prices too?

Louisiana people are passionate about their crawfish.

I used to get crazy comments from people when I had my retail business. One old man come into buy boiled shrimp. At the time, all I had was boiled headless. He stormed out of there (and said the boats are only getting $2/lb) when he saw the price which was around $8/lb. Most people don't realize what goes into the business. How the prices work, the yield (when you peel or break the heads), or that when you cook it you have shrinkage.

I'm not sure how the prices are set to the fisherman on crawfish but I know how it works with shrimp. Basically the biggest players in the domestic shrimp industry (shrimp processing plants) set their prices based on supply/demand/import prices/sales(if the shrimp are selling),etc. When my family had a shrimp processing plant for those 5 years or so, we weren't big enough to effect prices. We had to go along with what the larger companies were pricing to the fisherman for the most part.

When we were in the tuna business (for about 25 years), we had enough buying power and sales to affect prices and sometimes set them for the southeast region. That all ended when the cheap tuna imports flooded the market in the 90's on.

That's basically how crawfish work only more on the line cause if they set the price too high then buying docks get stuck with them on Monday....and as you know dead crawfish are worth $0
