He was primarily guarding Kawhi Leonard who abused him most of this series and won the FMVP.

He wasn't great on the defensive end this series, but in no way is his defense overrated.

Is Leonard's defense overrated since he got extreme help defense (1-2 people every play) guarding Lebron and he got abused by Lebron?

Nah, he's pretty damn good.

I'm not a LeBronie, but the dude is the best player in the league.

He's a good defender, but he's not one of the 10 best in the league. He shouldn't have been on either All-Defense team. Lot of what goes into those selections are a player's overall body of work and reputation rather than just their defensive performances. It's why guys like Tyson Chandler, Joakim Noah, and Tony Allen weren't recognized/appreciated as stud defenders until a year or two after they were already stud defenders.

So dumb. He would be on my all defensive 1st team every season for the foreseeable future. Such a joke as he can defend at an elite level a minimum of four positions on the court.

It isn't overrated, but not nearly at the level it used to be. He can still turn it on at times, but his defensive numbers were down a lot this year.

Tony Allen didn't even get recognized this year...

So much false here. Just because he has the size to defend multiple positions doesn't mean he does it at elite levels. Duncan was killing Lebron in the paint when he switched on him.

what the frick finals were you watching. Lebron had to guard who ever started hitting - which was basically the whole Spurs team.

No he wasn't even though he barely guarded him.

Spo's shitty defensive scheme was the biggest problem on defense other than the fact the Spurs played ridiculous.

His defense isn't overrated. He's the best perimeter defender in the league. He just can't play it for stretches because of the load he carries offensively.

The one where Kawhi Leonard was giving him mad buckets on his way to a FMVP

And how did he do with that?

The minutes and miles are piling up, and the Heat ask him to do too much, to expect him to consistently play at his top end on the defensive end of the court. When he plays hard, there's little question he's one of the four or five guys in the league that no one wants to face-- but the ability to go hard at both ends for 38 minutes per game is going to fade even more as he ages.

I think his off-ball defense is more overrated than his on-ball defense, and he gets a number of his blocks on 'chase plays', that are more a lack of player awareness of LeBron helping late and behind.

Still, its picking nits. The guy is as good a defender as you'll find at the 2 or 3, and can credibly defend most 1s and 4s, within team defensive concepts.
