He's faster, quicker, better conditioned, and far more well rounded and has a higher level of skill in all facets of the sport than most all of the guys that fought in the first UFC.

I don't think it would have been a fun night for the little guy.

He would have beaten the frick out of everybody.

Royce only won because nobody knew how to fight on the ground except for Ken Shamrock... and he wasn't as skilled as Royce.

Mighty Mouse is way more skilled than anybody at UFC 1.

Royce Gracie would have made Johnson tap. As talented as he is, DJ would be giving up 9 inches and at least 50 pounds to a submission specialist.

Gracie would eventually catch Mighty Mouse, take him to the ground, and finally submit him.

That's no knock on DJ, though. He's already defeated every top-ranked competitor in the flyweight division.

Johnson knows way more about ground fighting in an MMA fight than Royce Gracie did back then.

Royce Gracie got out-worked on the ground in many MMA fights.. and the fighters today are way better than they were just as recently as 2006 when Matt Hughes beat the hell out of him.

Mighty Mouse could keep it standing and beat him on the feet.

The fact is that Royce Gracie really wasn't that good of a fighter... even for his own time period. Once other fighters began incorporating ground fighting into their games, Royce had no advantage, and he couldn't compete anymore.

Weight means a lot. Johnson is so tiny. Johnson would've had to hold up over multiple fights. Even the winners of the early UFCs often bowed out due to injuries.

And don't forget about Dan Severn. He couldn't finish a fight for shite, but he was a damn beast on the ground. Severn would've slapped the shite out of Johnson's ears while on the ground.

Getting a black belt under his dad makes you a pretty good fighter, but as you pointed out, he wasn't the greatest and not even the best out of all of his siblings. Royler was better and Rickson was a beast. The reason they picked Royce to be the posterchild was to prove that BJJ was legit for everyone.

bump for UFC 191

Johnson vs Dodson II.

I still think DJ catches a glancing blow and goes down and eats hammer fists.
