have a apple tv and a hbo account via cox, if I go to hbo on apple tv it provides me a acces code to enter on cpu or tablet device etc. it also provides me the url address. my confusion is that how in the world do I enter the access code on the apple tv?
I would call cox but I'm afraid that since this is a apple tv product they would be stumped as well.
fwiw I was able to set up ipad with hbo app with the access code but I'm not thrilled in watching hbo on my ipad.

Try the tech board

Eta
But the answer is to type the URL on your iPad if you have one. Once you do it will take you to an hbo website where you enter your cable info (usually an email and password associated with your cable company--I use my comcast one for example). After you do this it will confirm the info and let you play hbo on your Apple TV.

Another option is to mirror your iPad onto your tv using Apple TV if you already have the hbo ap on your iPad

thanks I will look into this.
fwiw - once you figure that you need your cpu to enter the activation code it appears to work. it would be easier if the instructions are clearer that you need your cpu or similar device to connect the apple tv.

You beat me to it. Roku and Apple use the same means of registering a device and it requires that you use a PC.

Doesn't have to be a computer, you can use pretty much anything with a web browser. Phone/tablet/etc will work fine, just need a second device to verify the appletv.

It takes less than a minute.

HBOGO.com/activate on any device with a browser.

Choose Apple TV.

Type in the code.

Type in your provider logins.

Done.
