Just needed to point that out. Because you know we will at some point be screwed out of a legit goal or something similar.

Teams get screwed every WC. It's part of the drama. You have sometimes shitty or scared refs (mostly scared) who either are too loose with the whistle or swallow it too often. The balance is so precarious that poor refereeing will ruin many games. It's unfortunate.

You would think a ref would think twice, and maybe talk to his linesman, before issuing a questionable (nonexistant) penalty in the opening match of the WC.

Nah, this ref was fidgety. Once he blew the whistle it was either going to be a card for Fred or a card for Lovren. The ref made the wrong decision, and that is the way it is going to be. FWIW I don't think this ref was too biased toward the Brazilians before the call, but afterward seemed to be.

Yeah there were a lot of questionable fouls after that too. Also I get defending the keepers but that shouldn't have been a foul either.

To this ref's credit, he blew the whistle early. If he thought he saw a foul he called it immediately. He didn't pussyfoot around.

But he was TOO FAR AWAY TO PROPERLY SEE IT. He knew this match was going to be competitive (in a dull kind of way), and the potential for a Brazil loss was PATENT.

I'm not sure if him being quick on the draw is really to his credit

Slow down and think about some of those decisions, buddy.
