Economic Impact of the All Star Game in New Orleans

Visitors spent an average of $904 during their mid-February trip to New Orleans, according to UNO’s study. As a result of such a large influx of out-of-town attendees at the event, roughly $4.9 million in tax revenue was generated for the state of Louisiana, with $3.2 million in tax revenue going to governments in the New Orleans area.

In the past 3 years, New Orleans has absolutely KILLED it in the tourism department with these big sports events.

While I like going to the game, they need to spread the venues out. Going to LA, Houston, and Nola twice in 10 years was too much. Memphis, Charlotte, OKC, etc. are a nice change of pace. Toronto should be exciting as they never hosted.

It should be in NOLA as often as possible.

Jesus Christ, there's so much repair work going on right now (and has been for the last couple of years) wouldn't be able to move if there was more. Plus, there were tons of visible, tangible upgrades for the last Super Bowl.

Most of that is funded by the federal government flood project. Mitch even said a couple of weeks ago that they couldn't afford lights for the avenue.

Most people who are set in their ways will never be convinced, but the real issue these days is not corruption. Most of it on any large scale has been dealt with. The reality is that we have an inadequate tax base and tax structure in a city that requires a lot infrastructure maintenance and repair and the providing services to a significant percentage who can't/don't pay taxes (although, thankfully, this situation is slowly beginning to change in the last few years). Then, there is the consent decree clusterfrick, which as a practical matter, is inherited from previous generations, and, likewise, the firefighters' pension fund issue.

Let's be real here, VOR. The last mayor of the city has been convicted of serious federal crimes. The cops are still lying about crime statistics to keep dollars coming. There may be other issues, but let's give it 10 years without a major federal investigation before we say the corruption is over.
