Have we talked about this yet today? Sorry if we have. Didn't see it anywhere, but I could be looking in the wrong places.

Ghana may be short-handed when they play the United States and the rest of Group G at the World Cup. Abdul Majeed Waris suffered a tear of his left thigh in Ghana's win over South Korea on Monday and is now in a race against time to get fit for the World Cup.

"He had a knock on his left thigh. We initially tried to see if he could go back to play but we realized it was an injury that needed to be taken care of and managed well," team doctor Baba Adam said to the Ghana FA's official site. "We did an MRI on the quadriceps and what we realized is that, there was a tear.

"We hope to get him on to the field again pretty soon. However, we are still monitoring him to the deadline when we will give our final statement on his state of affairs."

Teams have until 24 hours before their first match to make changes to their roster in the event of injury so Ghana can take Waris off the roster and add someone else until June 15, but whoever they call up will be a massive downgrade from Waris.

The 22-year-old hasn't featured a ton for Ghana, but he has four goals in nine appearances for the Black Stars. He also had a really strong second half of the season for Valenciennes and is expected to be a huge spark off the bench for Ghana. If anything, Ghana figured to be especially strong in the last 30 minutes and that was almost entirely due to Waris.

Now Waris' World Cup is in doubt. That's especially good news for the U.S., who struggled to defend late in matches throughout their Send-Off Series and would have been ripe for Waris' picking.
