They didn't really turn on Clinton. ABC had the Monica story and spiked it. If not for Drudge forcing them into reporting the story we may never have learned of the hillbilly's dalliance in the oval office.

This. It's an egregious and unforgivable sin considering the primary role for having a free press is to hold government in check by holding it accountable.

The press turned on LBJ. They did not turn on Carter and Clinton. They protected both.
