Nah. First 4/5ths is some of the best sci fi ever then lost its way a bit. The final scene is still spectacular and it's extremely well acted.

Yeah the final part of them going into the sun was pretty cool. If you broke it into fifths, the fourth fifth is what sucks for the most part.

The deranged maybe monster astronaut was a bit cliche mcguffin but I enjoyed the rest so much I give it a pass.

I've always assumed someone made them change that 4/5 act. It's so out of place in the rest of the movie.
