Did you fail to see the second firearm?
ETA: this video is old and the pistol in the perpetrator's right hand is obvious. The second officer watched him pull it from his waistband. If there was no second officer from the opposite direction, there would be a different outcome to the situation.

Most will not unless the read the discussion, I would imagine. The first time I watched it, I was like dude that cop must have thought he was a dog.

I agree that he wasn't just some innocent dude. He didn't drop his weapon, he still had his hand on it.
After reading the rest of the video description on youtube for what else happened (I won't say in case people don't want "spoilers") I agree even more with the action taken.
ETA: apparently it's already pretty common knowledge lol

Yeah I figured it had made it's way around but I google searched the OT and it had not shown up. What the heck was that criminal thinking? They had him covered coming and going!

Buddy of mine emailed me the video and said to watch it but don't read below. I did and thought I saw a cop shoot a brother down who was trying to put down his weapon.

Um, that doesn't even look real. Pretty good camera work... looks like a recording of training or something like that. People don't really fall with their legs all sprawled like that...

The video is more than likely used in training now. The perpetrator was also shot in the back from the second officer. You fall differently depending on the direction of where the shots are fired from.

The truly enlightening aspect of this is to read the comments. There are some serious idiots out there.
"Even if hes reaching for the second gun, its against the law to shoot anyone from behind, 2nd if the suspect is standing trying to reach for a weapon as a cop you still have to wait til the gun is off the ground 3 feet high. shooting the suspect that fast is a mistake period! you can shoot that fast only if it is pointed right at you.."
