Didn't the Germans bomb it?

If it isn't on the FCAT, they won't be taught it.

I'm sure YOU might actually believe that.

Fat, stoned and stupid is no way to go through life, son.

Some of those Stukas aren't carrying torpedoes.

They probably already used them, duh.

Colleges and universities clearly are not teaching what they once did.

I don't blame the schools, not entirely. I knew about D-Day, Pearl Harbor, and learned a lot about American History early in life because my parents took the time to make sure I learned about historical events.

15 percent identified the location of the landing as Pearl Harbor, not beaches named Normandy and Omaha.

This article didn't even get that right.

Normandy = region of France where the Allies landed. The beaches were UTAH and Omaha (American sector) and Gold, Sword, and Juno (Anglo/Franco/Canadian sector).

I see you beat me to it. By the way, do you remember that judge who channeled Deam Wormer when he smacked down Snooki after she was arrested for disorderly conduct? "Rude, profane, obnoxious and self-indulgent is not the way to live your life."

I agree. That means K-12 is not teaching what they used to. My eyes were opened to the problem when I played a round of golf with a young man who seemed very intelligent...college grad...white collar job.

He kept his score with pencil and score card like normal. But after the round he took out his smart phone calculator to add the 18 single digit numbers.

Me: "Can't you just add those numbers in your head?"
Him: "No, not really."

Normandy = region of France

Yeah, I noticed Cal missed that one. Especially since my Cajun ancestors who settled in Nova Scotia came from Normandy.

I know exactly what you mean. The incident that grabbed my attention was the first time I jotted down some instructions for an individual and they looked at the note and replied, "I'm sorry, I can't read cursive".

This isn't anything new. Did they ask the college graduates 65 and older who the supreme commander was during the Civil War and where battles were fought? What about the Revolutionary War? History should not be a required course after middle school. Get the basics and move on. They will learn how it relates specifically to the subjects that are important to them (chemistry, engineering, etc.).
