ESPN’s Chad Ford is reporting that fair number of late lottery level picks could be had in trade, especially as some of those teams look to swap an unproven draft pick for a proven veteran.

According to Ford, the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, Charlotte Hornets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns are all open to offers, while the Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers and Toronto Raptors are trying to move up or acquire a second pick.

None of this is overly surprising, especially considering that the talent level that’s likely to be there at six through 14 isn’t nearly that of the top of the draft board, and for teams like the Celtics, the Lakers or even the Kings the two- or three-year learning curve of a player drafted this year isn’t nearly as appealing as a player a little further along developmentally.

The article goes on to list past Studs and Duds for picks 5-14, with Austin Rivers, Hilston Armstrong and Julian Wright making the Dud list.

Some of the classifications are off, IMHO.

Roy Tarpley was a great player on the court... he just couldn't get over his drug problem and it cost him his career.

How in the world are Austin Rivers, Jarvis Hayes, and Bison Dele put in the same category as Saer Sene and Luke Jackson.

You can find much much worse at the #10 pick than Rivers, Hayes, Dele, and Fredette.

Any Pelicans' fan would. However, there is no team that is going to give us a lottery pick for Gordon and his contract. We would have to attach a 1st to Gordon for any team even to consider taking him.

Or we would have to take a horrible contract back with the lottery pick.

idk bud

Gordon is still 25. A team could see last year as getting his feet back under him after the injuries, and 2014-2015 could be his return to the 20 ppg scorer he was a few years ago.

Can't underestimate NBA GMs. You never know.

VERY true. Every year there is some stupid team that does something horrific.

On a related note, I was on a Pistons board and they are Sooooooooooooooo happy they got Jeff Bower. It is really funny.

One thing to keep in mind is that every team on the list besides the Bucks and of course Timberwolves have tried to insert themselves in the Kevin Love sweepstakes. This could be Ford stretching "Kevin Love Package" into Vets > Kids.

That being said, there are more assets (both cap space and high draft picks) than desirable talent. If a team saw the writing on the wall and decided to be 1st in line for scraps instead of last, I could see it happening. But nobody should get their hopes up. I don't think we're talking Charlotte giving us #9 and cap space for Gordon. If it happened it'd probably be closer to Boston giving Gerald Wallace and #6 for Gordon and Rivers.

I think many people are really over-reacting to Gordon's season this past year. Did they really expect him to be back to 100% this year? Fact is the injuries along with poor coaching held a lot of these players back and killed any chance at the team getting a rhythm.

Look at the use of Tyreke for most of the year. Fact is that his contract is bad, yes, but people really underestimate what type of player he could be again after a year with no major injury and time with teammates.

I cannot imagine there is any GM that would give up a top pick for a guy with his injury history and contract. If he were cheap, it may be worth a shot, but he is clearly not worth that contract.

I think a lot of guys like Stauskas, James Young, Gary Harris, Rodney Hood will surprise some people.

Has he improved? I haven't paid much attention to this draft. Last year he looked like a tall wing who's only NBA level skill was passing.
