Michigan Legislature to approve $195M in Detroit bailout

I'm torn here. I don't like the idea of a state bailing out a city's bad behavior, but everyone is threatening to sue the state for its actions, so is Michigan better off by paying now instead of maybe paying a whole lot more later if a judge rules against them?

Nothing in the linked article talks about this. What exactly would be the cause of action against the state?
That said, it appears that paying this now will prevent the state from having to pay more later, so it seems fiscally prudent.
Oh, and Coleman Young can suck a dick. It's statements like his that reflect the dumbass governance that result in Detroit's current situation.

195m going to Detroit is like putting a band aid on someone who has been decapitated. I have no problem with the people of Michigan directing their money to one of their cities but they better know the cash will be inappropriately utilized, looted, and otherwise wasted.

I've been following this issue, and many others like it, for several years...for econoimc intuitions and not political.
If this was the first major city default and file for bankruptcy I MIGHT buy that...however, what Detroit "wanted" to do has happened several times over and this is just a political excuse to justify not having to "take over" Detroit.
They're not doing it out of fear they're doing it because they want to and using fear to sway public opinion which happens to be much like yours.

Whats to say that they still won't be sued later on down the road

Sen. Coleman Young II, D-Detroit, said the bills would keep the city "under the rule of unelected cronies for Lord knows how long."
If I were a legislator, I would vote against anything helping Detroit for the mere fact that they are still sending scum like this into office. The fact that anyone with the name "Coleman Young" can hold office is DISGUSTING and shows that Detroit will never change.
