Watching Mex. vs. Bos.-Herz. from Soldier Field Chicago and the Mex. fans loudly chant something at each Bos/Herz. goal kick but not their own. What on earth are they wanting to convey to the viewing audience ?

Normally it's either "culero" (a-hole) or "puto" (bitch or whore). Always classy, from the world's classiest fans.

And hearing 98 percent of the fans in a sold-out Georgia Dome chant it is somewhat terrifying.

ETA It´s also an ´expletive´, as in ´fricking´whatever.

In this case it would be ´puto´ balón (ball).

Wait...so UEFA fines teams and punishes them by ordering entire stadium sections to remain void of fans, for fans chanting slurs, displaying non-politically correct banners and tossing bananas ?
So what does CONCACAF have in store for the Mexican national team fans ? Will FIFA respond if/when Mexican morons act out in Brazil ?
Is there no common standard for fan behavior ?

Nothing.

They can call our goalie a **** all they want, but it's in Mexican Spanish against either other CONCACAF teams or non Spanish speaking teams, so FIFA doesn't give a shite.

I always thought "joto" was the equivalent of f***ot.

Puto also makes sense. I've heard many a "puta madre" while playing in the park on Sundays.

I´ve never heard that term. I haven´t been in Méjico since about 2004, either.

quote:

culero

Makes me laugh. Messicans are American Indians, and as such, didn´t really have a great dominion of Spanish (also, we´re talking 600 years of isolation, as opposed to the USA´s 250 or so, from English).

Culero is literally American English translated into Spanish (in fact, Mexicans speak Spanish like North Americans would/do in many instances).

quote:

"puta madre"

careful with this.....

Tu puta madre, you´d best get ready to throw down.

De puta madre, it´s great or fantastic.

I normally hear "puta madre" shouted by some chubby guy with a cig in his mouth after he drags his shot wide.

Chingado is another one that roughly translates to frick. Pendejo is something I'm still unable to translate.

Also, Dandy, I live in San Antonio so I'm sure most of this is Tex-Mex profanity.

Well, this could be ´su puta madre´. I´d say ´puta mierda´ (although you could say ´su puta madre´ in reference to the balón or pelota as Cap just said).

quote:

Chingado
Messican as well. fricked one, shite head

quote:

Pendejo
is Messican for ´gilipollas´ (dumbass, dumbfrick, etc.)

Also, I just finished "Fear and Loathing in La Liga," a very detailed history of El Clasico. In it most of the Spanish players use the term "joder." I assume this is Castilian for "frick."

It seemed like it was used in quotes by guys like Butragueño and some older guys from the 50s-70s.
