I have a fairly new lap top and taking an on-line class i like to use multiple monitors, key board, etc. I have different things telling me I can only use the computer brand docking station. Can't I use a genric one? I was loing at them on Amazon, but have not had much luck with their electronics, any suggestions would be helpful.

I'd go laptop brand docking station. They're actually made for that laptop. Not all laptops will dock on the same stations, so you're taking a risk that way as well.

Does your laptop have a docking port?

Not only that, but make sure that the docking station is made to work with that specific model. We use laptops with docking stations at work. Some people have newer HPs than others do and we need different docking stations depending on the model of machine we have.

The generic ones are typically garbage.
