refinishing hard wood floors

house built in 51, 1300 sq feet of the house has 3/4 oak flooring. need to refinish them. would you recommend paying or DIY. the DIY doesn't scare me, it's more the time involved. If hired out, what's a good price per sq ft, for anyone who has had it done before. TIA.

Not an expensive project. Can probably get an illegal to do if for $2/ft. Some contractors might charge up to $3-4

Hire a pro. If you get into hand scraping, pricing can vary.

My bad i read it as replacing the floors not refinishing.

I have this same floor and situation in my house. You can rent a sander and sand it all down in a weekend (if the house is empty). It's really easy to do if you have any mechanical skills.

Just get some sandpaper and some elbow grease.

Do they need screening or complete refinish? Some of those sanders can take off a lot of wood in the blink of an eye...
