New Soccer fan here....

Have never been a soccer fan in my life though I have always enjoyed watching World Cup soccer in years past (including Landon Donovan . Recently my kids have started playing U10 soccer. We've started watching the sunday premier league games together talking rules, strategies and just enjoying watching the game played at the highest levels. I've got to admit that some of the athleticism and skills are just unbelievable. I see why this soccer is called "the beautiful game".
Looking forward to watching the upcoming World Cup and hoping the US surprises the hell out of everyone. If any of my posts reek of pure ignorance along the way I ask in advance for forgiveness.

Welcome. I have no doubt that your love of the beautiful game will grow just as much as ours has. You picked a great time to get interested. The World Cup is just another level of awesome.

Welcome aboard.
I find that this board is pretty kind toward new posters who are new to the game.
Don't be afraid to ask any questions...we've got a few who might be jerks to you, but most of us remember when we were new to the board. We try to be helpful to all newcomers.

Welcome! This is a great board sans a few posters

If you plan on reading this board during the WC, we are going to have a thread stickied soon that will explain some of the abbreviations and nicknames that you will see us use. Will also have some of the board rules such as don't put scores in thread titles.
I'm always glad to hear about new soccer fans of any generation. Welcome

Welcome.
No problem. We like new posters/fans, as long as they don't come in trying to "fix" the game (offside, 'what if Lebron played soccer,' etc.).

Just remember that no one has ever sucked worse than Jonathan Bornstein, except for maybe John Terry but for entirely different reasons. Jurgy can't even spell tactics, and Landon is GAWD. :waterfountain:

This is the most accurate representation of the OG standards.
The Confederations Cup in '09 was madness. You'd swear that baseball players and NASCAR drivers were extras in 300 as Spartans compared to the "fairy" soccer players.
Regardless, this is a great board. It'll make it more fun for you watching matches. This is what the fight was all about back in those days.

If I didn't have a EPL team, I'd go deep arcane random. You'd be the only one in (at least) your state to represent a club like Guernsey:
Guernsey FC

thanks all... looking forward hanging here more often. About to pop the top on a Hoegaarden and watch US vs. Turkey. Will take a break at halftime to work on the kids soccer moves in the backyard

World Cup is really the springboard for a lot of people to fall in love with the game. I half-paid attention to the club game, but the '02 World Cup won me over for life.
