I consider myself an individual. Free to think, and do as I please, under the common restraints of the law.

I do not align myself with ANY party, because I see what ailments that brings. I question everything, and that is usually not welcome.

Where do I fall in line? As an outsider? Am I always doomed to vote for one party or another, when I don't completely agree with either?

I'm told elections have consequences, so am I just SOL if I vote for an independent party that has no chance of winning, or should I vote for the next best option?

Reason I ask, because this was my parent's mindset in the 90's, they wanted to vote for someone else, but cast their vote for Clinton, because they thought that vote would be better than his counterpart.

edit: I'd actually like some advice on this, my parents wanted Ross Perot.

This has been every election in my lifetime. Always the lessor of two evils.

So, you distrust political parties? You are off to a great start.

The government is not us

I'm not completely aboard team AnCap(anarcho-capitalism), but I get a little closer everyday.

This is why I'm not an AnCap yet. Elections do have consequences. If Liberals (and both parties are LOADED w/ 'em) completely have their way, there is no doubt government would be even larger than it currently is....which is fricking massive.

These are answers I am looking for.

I googled team Ancap and the first few results direct you to reddit, and the rest to insurance companies.

There is no 'independent party.' You can register as an 'independent' which means you are not affiliated with any party. What you are referring to are the minor parties after the Dems and GOP. There are lots of them... libertarian, reform, green, socialist, constitution, etc. All of them have some sort of ideology. If you don't have any ideology then there is no reason for you to vote. You would merely be flipping a coin.

If you have an ideology but don't see your vote as counting in the grand scheme of things, then don't vote. It's a free country .. for now.

So you vote based on who will do the least damage? Why vote at all then?

Figure it out for yourself. After all, you're and individual, independent thinker, right?

Why are you, an independent person, voting to be lead by some bureaucrat?

You can be an Anarchist and still vote. I think it's counterproductive, but if you see value in voting for Republicans over Democrats it isn't a violation of the NAP to vote.

Consider that all people are individuals. There is NO ideal candidate for everyone. Life is about compromises. If you only accept perfection in every aspect of life, you will be a very disappointed and miserable person.

Choosing to vote legitimizes something that is illegitimate.

Who said I did? I've never lived in a swing state, so what's the point?
