FOX Sports 910 in Arizona reports Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington will be suspended for the entire 2014 season. Washington pled guilty to aggravated assault last month after he choked out the mother of his daughter, causing her to fall and break her collarbone. Commissioner Roger Goodell is dropping the hammer on Washington if this report proves to be true. Washington was suspended four games at the start of 2013, but that was for a violation of the substance-abuse policy. This impending ban falls under the personal conduct policy. It's a massive blow to the Arizona defense. Washington was a stud in coverage next to Karlos Dansby last season and received excellent marks as a run defender and pass rusher from Pro Football Focus in 2012. Kevin Minter and Larry Foote will have to pick up the slack. Minter played just one defensive snap as a rookie.

Yikes.

Kinda like how he dropped the hammer on Ray Rice for knocking out his girlfriend and Jim Irsay for driving fricked up on pills/with pills and $29K in cash on him?

As long as you don't say something about "killing the head" you're pretty much OK in Goodell's book.

They don't have another choice outside of Foote, which is a crypt keeper at this point

Jim Irsay getting a slap on the wrist in the legal system is more alarming to me. I know he has a lot of money, but carrying as many drugs as he had and $29k in cash gets you a felony charge 99.9% of the time. The burden on the prosecutor to indict is pretty low. The prosecutor said the charges didn't support a felony charge? Pleeeease. Sure, maybe the DA would let him plead to a misdemeanor if he has no priors or let him plead guilty as first offender and the charges later dismissed, but gtfo with not charging him with a felony at all.

They could very easily go and sign someone.

they could, but i don't see the point in spending a 2nd round draft pick on a linebacker if you don't intend on using him more, especially as thin as they are now. They have over 4 million (over 2 mill guaranteed) invested in Minter.

Who exactly? If there was a worthwhile starter on the market, the cowboys would've signed them already.

ETA Minter was already in line for playing time this year. This just makes the path much more easier to it.

You either go with the newborn or the deathbed coot. I'm pretty sure they'll go the younger route.

Now that baseball has simmered down, I'll bump this

quote:

Cardinals second-year ILB Kevin Minter is making all the defensive calls after playing just one defensive snap as a rookie. Minter is being thrust into the job after Arizona let Karlos Dansby go to the Browns and Daryl Washington was lost to a yearlong suspension. Minter is a downhill, thumping inside 'backer who excels against the run, but will stay on the field for passing downs if he remains the Cardinals' defensive playcaller. Minter is a big-time IDP breakout candidate at Washington's old playmaking role.

They need a body to replace the injured. Has nothing to do with Minter PT.

Read my bump. Minter is calling the defense. Started spot is sewed up
