Colt Lyerla

quote:

The 6-foot-4, 242-pound tight end was viewed as a potential first-round pick not too long ago, but the last time he played in a game was September 2013. Lyerla was suspended by Oregon for missing multiple practices. He then quit the squad, started using drugs, and got arrested for possession of cocaine. At the Combine, Lyerla blazed a 4.61 forty with a 39-inch vertical and 10-foot-8 broad jump. He has natural hands and a large catch radius (32 3/4-inch arms).

quote:

Lyerla finished his college career with 34 catches for 565 yards (16.6 YPR) and 11 touchdowns

quote:

The two early candidates for newest fan favorites are receiver Jared Abbrederis and tight end Colt Lyerla. They drew some of the loudest cheers from the crowd that watched practice. It should be no surprise that Abbrederis was well received given that he grew up in Wisconsin and played for the Badgers. But the response to Lyerla, the troubled former Oregon tight end who went undrafted because of off-the-field concerns, was a bit more surprising.

quote:

When the 2014 Packers practiced in public for the first time Thursday, Lyerla drew the loudest cheer at Ray Nitschke Field when he reached high to haul in an overthrown pass.

who is the TE in Green Bay that he has to compete against?

yeah, he looks good...just not sure why they signed Pettigrew to a 4 year deal(guaranteed min 2 years), and They also added Tate, so I don't know how many looks he'll get the first year.

It's kinda why I look toward Green Bay and Houston...there's 180 targets up for grabs now that J.Jones/Finley are gone....and 100 target vacuum now that Daniels is gone.

Ertz looks to be the better talent, just not seeing the first year upside....like Julius Thomas last year in Denver, both tamme and Dreesen were both hurt in the preseason, and JT was named new TE#1...I grabbed him and Gronk(waiting for return)

I see rumblings about Olsen as if he's a sleeper, which he's not, I just have a hard time thinking that he will "step up" given that he really has never stepped up....he'll of course be serviceable, but I doubt upside.

There's other places like Tampa Bay...but Wright, Meyers and a 2nd round TE...no thanks

You got Adrein Robinson in NYG my guess is that the coaches see something because they didn't bring any FAs or drafts picks after they lost Myers...there's a 70-110 target hole that he could fill.

Wrights not even going to play TE. He's going to be like Colston his rookie year

Lyerla isn't even going to make GBs roster. They have Quarless and Bostick, who they were high on last year

with VJax and that AM kid? Meyers and Safarian at TE...he's a slot guy?

and taylor and a bunch else, who knows yet....I was just saying places where I think another Julius Thomas may show. Lyerla fits that, and the situation fits as well

Brees-Graham
Brady-Gronk
PManning-JThom
Rodgers-________

Guy I like if healthy is Travis Kelce. Alex smith rarely throws the ball past the first down marker. I believe rotoworld stated he threw past it less than any qb in the league. McGrath and fasanos numbers combined were respectable and Kelce offers much more talent than those two. I really like his upside if healthy. Micro fracture knee injury last season and hasn't participated in otas. I will be monitoring their preseason heavily.
