LSU must have the word GEAUX trademarked because when ordering custom made shirts from certain sites, you have to have "permission" from LSU.

I'm pretty sure that USL/ULL has used "geaux" for so long that nobody remembers its genesis.

Most if not all universities (and actually some high schools) obtain trademark for slogans, words and symbols associated with the university and athletic programs (for example, "Green Wave"). It allows them to license the right to use the trademark to retailers and other third parties for various approved purposes in exchange for royalties and fees. Many universities have a trademark and licensing office that specifically oversees this function. I am surprised UL at L had not already done it.

They do not have just the word "GEAUX" trademarked. They have "GEAUX TIGERS". They would probably argue that GEAUX in purple and gold is a derivative of their mark. Here is a list of LSU's trademarks:

I agree, but on a Thursday afternoon with not much going on, this being a discussion forum, and the LSU-ULL dislike at a high, I thought the Rant is the place to go with this story.
also in all honesty with GEAUX being a unique spelling of the word GO, LSU would have trade marked it long ago. They sure do trade mark a lot of shite. It has been in use by LSU as long as I can remember, I am in my 30s. Don't know how long ULL or SLU has been using it.
