Fwiw, 10 out of the top 11 are in Latin America.

No point; strictly FYI.

I just checked the link to all countries. It seems that the least happy countries are Muslim. Does anyone else see it that way?

That's interesting. I didn't catch that.

I've been to 9 of the 10 Latin American countries that made the list. I saw poverty in El Salvador, for example, that was difficult to comprehend. Grown men out in public with no shoes on. Not homeless people; regular people who couldn't afford a pair of shoes. But I must admit the ones I spoke with did not strike me as being unhappy.

Venezuela?

The fact that they are on the verge of a civil war must be masked by the hot women in Caracas.

I've been to Venezuela. I think Latinos in South American countries pretty much accept civil unrest as a normal part of life.

I'm going to draw my own very limited and generalized blind theory about this, I think this has alot to do with their personalities. Hispanic people tend to just be happy people in my experiences. That or they just act happy all the time. I guess that's where I get my positive outlook on life from, my family is Cuban and they're always in a good mood.

My dad used to go to Venezuela on business, and an armed driver had to discretely meet him off the plane to take him to his hotel because Venezuelans love to kidnap Americans.

Pretty sweet place.

And eastern European (Nagorno, Belarus, Serbia, Bosnia, etc).

It's no wonder Russian models look so ticked off all the time.

Contrasting Latin America with eastern Europe (they probably have roughly similar socioeconomic statuses) is interesting. Maybe it's the weather.

I feel like one of these "Happiest" Country/State/City comes out every other month and they're all different. So I call bullshite on all of them.

This survey is clearly based on the western idea of happiness.

Well, I suppose a desire to kidnap Americans would not necessarily have to be a deterrent to "happiness."

I'm not sure how you could even pretend to be able to get any sort of accurate polling number on this type of thing globally, but I guess it's a fun exercise.

And the happiest countries are Catholic. In all seriousness I believe that plays a part but so does the culture and personality of the people and the climate. The dessert is a crappy place to live and South America is not. Latin people are generally pretty laid back, in my experience while Arabs are high strung.

That's a good point. I was raised a Cajun Catholic in abject poverty. But we were happy. Cajun culture and sharia culture are as opposite as you can get.

I've been all over Latin America, and the people in SE Asia are the happiest I've ever come across. I really can't understand this list.

Are you kidding? When i was in SE Asia all of the indigenous people smoked, gambled, and lied like rugs. They were probably the most unhappy people I have ever run across in my life. Gambling maniacs driven only by the pursuit of money. Many would be willing to kill a relative for the right payout.

No, people I saw in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam were far happier than people I've seen in Guatemala and Honduras.

San Pedro Sula is one of the murder capitals of the world. Guatemala is a kind of poverty that's hard to comprehend. I found Asians were happier, and the countries had far less crime.
