If MLB's new commissioner were to do these things, would you like it?

Here's what I would do: (For arguments' sake, just assume the MLBPA agreed somehow)

1. Move the Houston back to the NL to make each league have an even number of teams to avoid everyday inter-league play.

2. Steroid offenses would be as follows: 1st offense- miss 162 games. 2nd offense- Miss 243 games. 3rd offense- Lifetime ban. It's not that I give a shite about 'roids so much, it's just to end the "who's clean/who's dirty" speculation that's just fricking tiring and annoying.

3. Abolish the divisions and wild card. Go back to East/West divisions. Take the top 2 teams from each division to the playoffs. 5 game divisional series between the top 2 east and top 2 west teams. 7 game LCS. 7 game WS, of course. Here's how they would divide up:

AL East
NYY
BOS
BAL
TOR
TB
DET
CLE
AL West
CHW
OAK
LAA
TEX
SEA
KC
MIN
NL East
StL
WAS
MIA
NYM
PHI
CIN
CHC
PIT
NL West
ATL
SF
LAD
SD
HOU
COL
ARI
MIL

4. Play each team in your division 105 times. (roughly 15x per team NL and 17-18 per team AL) Play the other division in your league 48 games. (Roughly 6-7x per team AL and 6x per team NL)
Play 9 Interleague games. I like interleague.

5. PLay 3 Interleague series. Each team has a locked inter-league opponent they play yearly. The other 2 rotate. Interleague series start late June with the locked opponent interleague series being the weekend of July 4th. Locked opponents would be:

SF-OAK
SEA-SD
LAD-LAA
TEX-HOU
KC-StL
CHC-CHW
TB-MIA
CIN-CLE
WAS-BAL
PIT-PHI
NYM-NYY
ATL-BOS
MIL-DET
ARI-TOR
COL-MIN

6. Keep the DH. Having a difference between AL and NL is nice.

7. Last series of year, try to hit rivalries if you can. (BOS/NYY, SF/LAD, etc. etc.)

8. Allow Oakland to fricking move to San Jose. If TB looks to move also, the only cities that should be really considered would be Montreal or Brooklyn.

9. ASG DOESN'T frickING MATTER. Keep playing it and letting fans vote of course, but don't let the game count. The team with the best record gets home field advantage in the playoffs and world series.

I have been on the 2-division bandwagon for a while. Never understood why they went to 3, because when they first went to 3 they were still playing balanced schedules.

I would be for your scenario.

First thing is make the NL adopt the DH. Second, eliminate the second wild card. I like the three division format otherwise.

Just to be clear, we all know that these are things that YOU want to happen.

Not a hypothetical commissioner takeover of the league.

3 division format sucks. Having 2 larger divisions usually helps alleviate the "weak division" stigma.

Yes, of course. I thought that was clear. I was just fielding out how others would feel about it. it's a message board, where people, you know.....um...field opinions.

Great contribution. You could've moved on to another thread if this didn't interest you, but no. You just were wetting your panties to post this.

I guess I could've put STL in the west, but it would suck to lose the STL vs CIN, and STL/CHC series.

I still think the best idea would be to add two teams, go to 32, like the NFL and have all the Division Winners make the playoffs only. Montreal and another team, preferably a western market like Portland who would probably be the best fit, although Albuquerque in 10-15 years could be attractive too if it keeps growing.

AL EAST
Baltimore
Boston
New York
Tampa Bay

AL Midwest
Chi White Sox
Cleveland
Detroit
Toronto

AL Central
Houston
Kansas City
Minnesota
Texas

AL West
LA Angels
Oakland
Portland
Seattle

NL Atlantic
Miami
Montreal
New York
Atlanta

NL East
Washington
Cincinnati
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh

NL Midwest
Chicago Cubs
Colorado
Milwaukee
St. Louis

NL West
Arizona
Los Angeles
San Diego
San Francisco

Baseball has markets that are struggling now. If anything, baseball needs to contract 2.

it's how they did it before. MIL is not really east or west.

It was either STL, CIN, or ATL in the west. I picked ATL so as not to get rid of the STL/CHC and STL/CIN rivalry. Plus, back in the day ATL had a pretty good rivalry with a few west teams.

I'd probably give the ax to Tampa Bay in that situation. As for the other team that gets the ax, it's a tough decision but the best bet would probably be Oakland if they can't get a new stadium. No other team really fits the bill for being contracted.

TB and CLE are the ones who probably fit the bill for contraction IMO. Maybe KC if we're being picky.

Maybe Oakland if they can't find a home. If the commish would allow them to move to San Jose, all would be well with them.

If MLB adopted the EPL rules for relegation of losing teams, that would be truly great. That way teams like the Astros would have to try and compete. I'll add that to my commissioner list

frick no. Pitchers should hit in both leagues. Adds much more strategy to the game. Can't play in the field? Tough shite, ride the pine.

Ehhhh...not sure how that would work. Would the Astros just be a minor league team with major league stadium and facilities? would someone take their place? If so, no AAA or AA team has the facilities and $ to compete or even make money at the MLB level. ALso, those players on the AAA teams are property of current MLB teams. The system really isn't set up to work that way. You want to incentivize teams to compete? Lower profit sharing if they refuse to spend a certain amount of $ on payroll.
