An idiot in Piedmont, AL posted Facebook videos of himself driving to work and bitching about cyclists on the road, while seemingly attempting to intimidate the cyclists to some extent.

Local cyclists take offense and report the videos to the local authorities. He was was arrested and charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment.

As a cyclist, people with this mentality (we can debate whether he was serious or not, but the mentality exists) scare the crap out of me.

Here's the news story: LINK

That is obviously a joke, and that guy has been charged.

That's a great cycling area. I've been wanting to go up there and race the Foothills Classic Road Race. But haven't had the chance yet.

The sole source of my anti-cyclist rage is directed at cyclists that are too stupid to stay off River Road near LSU. Yes, I know it's designated as a cycling route, but there's no shoulder and cars are driving 55mph each way. In other parts of the world cyclists can be normal human beings who take advantage of deserted rural roads to do their exercise.

they can play some football, though.

You see, I can certainly see your point.

But again, as a cyclist, I've been in countless situations where people pass unnecessarily close and fast on open roads. They're taking my life into their hands at that point. If the slip just one bit, I'm dead. That simple.

I sort of relate it to someone 'jokingly' pointing a loaded gun to your head. Would you find that funny?

The guy sounds like someone from central casting said, "We need a 'Southerner' here. Some, but not all teeth. He needs to make Larry the Cable Guy sound like William F. Buckley."

I have no issue with folks riding their bikes, but they need to not impede traffic.
There are lots of places to ride without getting in the way of cars.

Maybe we should lower the speed limit?

Or build a shoulder. But cyclists wouldn't use it. Just like they don't ride in a single-file line on the road as it is. Morons riding in a Peleton like they're Greg LeMond in Cane's Racing singlets.

roads were designed for motor vehicles, end of story....find a velodrome or get a mountain bike and find some trails.

How pissed do yall get when people are walking in the bike lane? Why? because it makes you have to brake and go around them(which also puts you into harms way) it impedes the natural flow .....same logic.

I'm assuming the arrest came from the 3rd video?

In the first two, he went around them like normal

From the videos it looked like he gave the cyclist plenty of room when passing. I'd guess the only thing that out the cyclists in 'danger' or scared them, is the last time when he went into the passing gear.

Maybe I'm wrong and he nearly clipped each one, but it doesn't look like that.

If he's being charged because of his words, I'm uncomfortable with the speed of this slippery slope.

You're getting upset over people riding bikes near a major university campus?

For many, a bike is the only available mode of transportation.
