Have any of you ever hired a PI to locate someone? The person in question is a dead beat dad who seems to be too elusive for the Bureau of Child Support Enforcement. Last we heard from him was beginning of December 2013. Kids called and texted him to death with no regular return contact. He constantly changes his cell phone numbers and began working cash jobs to avoid the child support wage garnishment that was part of the support judgement. The number we had for him is no longer in service but occasionally the kids will get a random text to their phones from him so as far as we know he ain't dead yet.

Is it expensive? Waste of time? What access would a PI have that is not public?

I guess we just don't know where to begin looking for him on our own and someone suggested a PI. Child support enforcement is a joke so they have been no help. Family and friends have no experience with hiring one and thought maybe someone here has some insight.

Seems like a lot of effort for little payoff

why don't you step up and take care of this ho's kids?

if the dude was as much of a deadbeat as you make him sound, i would want him away from my family.

Just ask him to sign over all legal rights to you that way he is out of the picture forever.

There's something to be said for not letting someone get away with it.

If he's working cash only jobs, I'd guess that he probably doesn't have much to contribute anyway.
Take the money you plan on spending on an PI, and invest it in those kids.

It's as much about the principle of it at this point rather then the $$$. We're okay but the kids still want to know what the hell is going on with their father who is putting in a lot of effort to avoid them as well. Shitty situation to be in as a step father.

Post his name here. The OT detectives will have him located by midnight.

Yes, they are expensive. So if this guy doesn't make shite it might not be financially worth it.

I hear ya. But the kids want to know what's up with their father. It's a shitty situation. Him being out of my life is fine, but they want some kind of info and answers to their questions.

I am very tempted to do just that as I have witnessed the OT detectives at work

The PI will squeeze more money from you than what you'll recover from the ex.

Do they have access to information that is not public knowledge? We are willing to do some legwork just have no idea where to start.

He see's his kids as a bill already, all this I going to do is keep him in the picture longer.

Take away the worthless fricks parental rights. Have him sign them over for a waiver of all child support debt.

You have to keep in mind that PI's are licensed. You don't want to run afoul of any privacy or stalking laws.
