Why is it called the normal heart?

(This is the HBO movie about the gays and AIDS in the early 80s)

Is this the one with Sheldon in it? Guess he's trying to break out of the BBT typecasting.

Only been in one scene so far.... sorta seemed like he was just a gay(er) Sheldon. Hoping that changes though.

ETA: He did a great job.

Hour and a half into it and it's very good. Really well acted and interesting.

And yes, if people can get past the first five minutes there's some good acting in there.

Yeah, I am not too familiar with the period of time, but I felt like it was a very realistic depiction of what the struggles were like.

I would also recommend How to Survive a Plague, a documentary from 2012. Just heartbreaking. My college roommate ( who ended up with both a JD and a MD) wrote a senior thesis on the US government's response to AIDS and compared and contrasted it to its response towards other emerging diseases and to other country's response to AIDS specifically. I ended up reading a lot of the evidence, and wow, it is just DAMNING. As in I really believe that certain people in government should have been arrested for gross incompetence and manslaughter. Basically, the US government opened up its entire citizenry to an actual plague by ignoring obvious early evidence. For comparison's sake, look at the response you have seen to MERS that has affected less than 50 people in the country so far.

The Normal Heart I believe refers to both the idea of love is love whether heterosexual or homosexual, but also gets to the idea that both homosexual and heterosexual anatomy is the same and that by ignoring this fact and ignoring the disease as a "gay man's disease", the government doomed plenty of people in what they considered the right population as well.

We all enjoy going to doomsday movies about plagues creating zombies, or wiping out most of the population, but this was a real thing. Could you imagine the emotional toll it would take on you to lose 85% of your social circle within a couple of years, knowing it is a contagious disease, but not knowing much else about it?

Yeah. It was fricking terrible. I was watching and thinking no way this is real? They are embellishing right? But it doesn't seem so.

I was really impressed with this one. Terrific performances by everyone. It was a sad and terrifying time for a lot of people. I thought the debate about gay politics and sexual activity was pretty interesting.

And, by the way, Jim Parsons seems like he really may be gay . . .
