I'm excited to see the movie adaptation, but I really hope they rewrite the ending like rumors have suggested.
It's a brilliantly written book. I really like the alternating narrative and from about 1/3 of the way to the end I was absolutely hooked. The unreliable narration in the first half of the book and it's revelations was great literary suspense IMO. And it's display of Amy's genuinely creepy characteristics is great (that "head cock" makes me want to shite my pants when she said "Play nice, Nick". ).
Unfortunately, the ending leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. And maybe it's supposed to. But it just feels terribly inconsistent in comparison to the rest of the book.
Thoughts?

I agree 100%. I thought the ending made zero sense when compared to the rest of the book.
I get Nick had a sense of duty to take care of his own (and thus, stay with Amy), but his story never really developed that part of him. As in, he didn't throw Amy under the bus because he wanted to keep the child, but there were many ways he could bring justice to Amy (and Desi) and also keep the child. Then again, maybe he knew Amy would throw herself down some stairs if he had her thrown in jail. Just saying, his decision wasn't really developed.

I didn't care for the ending either but it's been so long since I read it, I barely remember it.
I read the rest of her books after reading "Gone Girl" and they are pretty good, too. Really creepy.

My wife just finished this book and has been saying how disappointed she was with the ending. She said she wasn't satisfied that the girl didn't get what was coming to her.

Yeah I think the end will have some form if justice for Amy, just a guess. I've liked everything Flynn has written and see the she and Fincher are working on an HBO series based on the British series Utopia.

My girlfriend read this and loved it so I decided to read also. Loved the book, and I had a feeling that it would end the way it would. I wasn't a big fan of the end, but it still an awesome book. I feel like they could turn it into a really good movie if they do it right.
