President Obama is taking a swipe at the Founding Fathers, blaming his inability to move his agenda on the “disadvantage” of having each state represented equally in the Senate.

quote:

At a Democratic fundraiser in Chicago Thursday night, Mr. Obama told a small group of wealthy supporters that there are several hurdles to keeping Democrats in control of the Senate and recapturing the House. One of those problems, he said, is the apportionment of two Senate seats to each state regardless of population.

quote:

“Obviously, the nature of the Senate means that California has the same number of Senate seats as Wyoming. That puts us at a disadvantage,” Mr. Obama said.

quote:

The president also blamed “demographics” for the inability of the Democratic Party to gain more power in Congress, saying Democrats “tend to congregate a little more densely” in cities such as New York and Chicago. He said it gives Republicans disproportional clout in Congress.

quote:

“So there are some structural reasons why, despite the fact that Republican ideas are largely rejected by the public, it’s still hard for us to break through,” Mr. Obama said.

Obama has referred to the US Constitution as a "charter of negative liberties". What kind of patriotic, good willed, American says these kinds of things?

If the good people of Wyoming disagree with the good people of California then that is why the people of Wyoming have an equal voice.

Old school... bus them in to vote ...

Nothing this guy says surprises me anymore.

If he already feels that way about how the senate is structured, then he should thank his lucky stars for the 17th amendment.

Yes, we know. But don't bother telling that to Obama, the highly-esteemed law professor errr instructor.

Here's the larger quote from that 1/2001 statement, for what it's worth:

"If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement, and its litigation strategy in the court, I think where it succeeded was to vest formal rights in previously dispossessed peoples, so that I would now have the right to vote, I would now be able to sit at a lunch counter and order, and as long as I could pay for it I’d be okay."

"But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth and sort of more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society. And to that extent as radical as I think people tried to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn't that radical. It didn't break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, as least as it's been interpreted, and Warren Court interpreted in the same way that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties, says what the states can't do to you, says what the federal government can't do to you, but it doesn't say what the federal government or the state government must do on your behalf. And that hasn’t shifted."

"One of the, I think, the tragedies of the civil rights movement, was because the civil rights movement became so court focused, I think that there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change, and in some ways we still stuffer from that."

I don't see how he can say that when 30 states have republican governors.

And it is that very senate that is saving his arse and giving him everything he wants.

The at-large section of congress rejects his bullshite.

It is amazing that a man with his view of the constitution and governance could ever be elected - twice - to POTUS. He is a disgrace.

Do you think he can convince his rich Hollywood supporters to redistribute their wealth? Do you think he has even asked them? They don't need the Supreme Court to force them to do what they believe do they?

This obama fool is what the FF's warned us about over 230 years ago in many of their writings.

It's gonna be comic gold to see what the little community organizer does if the GOP can gain control of the US Senate in November.

Speaks heartily to the nature of his opponents' campaigns, especially Romney's.

Exactly. I'd like to compare the composition of the Senate to the popular vote. Especially in 2009-2010.

The final 2 years of his presidency will be pretty interesting if the republicans get control of the senate.

I really didn't think I could be shocked by anything else Obama did but I really thought those statements were fake...I hoped it was an Onion article.

I remember a few years back the dims acted like the Republicans were dead and would never gain another seat in either house...then they started acting like the statists they are and opened up a lot of the fool's eyes.

Personal freedoms are largely rejected by the public?

American Exceptionalism is largely rejected by the public?

Lower Taxes are largely rejected by the public?

Smaller Federal Government is largely rejected by the public?

"You didn't build that" is largely accepted by the public?

Socialist Redistributionism is largely accepted by the public?

Really?
