New Roof Insurance Claim: Should I get estimates, or just hand over the check?

I called the insurance company about hail damage, and they sent out an adjuster. 5 days later, they send a letter saying that the roof needs to be replaced, throw out a dollar amount, and list the deductible. What's my next step?
Should I call roofers and get estimates? Or call the most reputable I can find and sign over the check?

Absolutely get estimates, and don't even tell them it's an insurance clam, if you can get by with it

What if the estimate is less than the check from the insurance payment?
Do you return it to the company? Is it fraud if you take it to the strip club?
