Will the day come when Zachary no longer thrives as a city?

Are people still moving in heaps to Zachary and will this continue?

HOW does Zachary stack up with Prairieville/Walker and what's the political standing within the community (are the leaders of the school board and city council respected)?

I ask because friends of mine cannot decide to move to Zachary or to a nice neighborhood in South baton Rouge. They will send their 15 and 12 year olds to either private school in BR or Zachary High/Northwestern Middle in Zachary.

How would you rate Zachary schools and is the extra money to stay in Baton Rouge (in an incredible neighborhood just 5 minutes from LSU) and attend Episcopal or Dunham worth it vs. moving to a suburb and free education?

I have not been out there for some time, but when I was, Zachary looked like it was a decade away from becoming Baker.

I have heard better things since then though.

Zachary is the third fastest growing city in the state. NO is first. BR lost population.

From the Advocate this morning:

quote:

And Zachary emerged as the state’s third-fastest growing city during that time period with a 6.24 percent increase, from 14,960 in 2010 to 15,894 in 2013.

They have the number 1 rated school district in the state but it's deceiving because there is only a handful of schools and only 1 high school. There are a few high schools around here that rate higher than Zachary.

For me it would be a quality of life decision. I would not want to move up to Zachary to live in a suburban neighborhood. If I moved up there I would want a little acreage to live on. If they value going out and doing things, there is not much in the way of restaurants, bars, or entertainment.

It's a blighted city.

I live in Zachary. It seems to me to be a great place to raise your children. Of course I don't live in a subdivision either and I love that.

From what I understand, the demographics of Zachary are changing rapidly.

Central still seems ok.
