Gun Safe Help...

So here's the story. A friend of mine who is a locksmith replaced a large gun safe for an insurance company. The safe was in a moving truck when there was a fire in the bed of the truck. The paint was damaged, and for some unknown reason the interior is now stripped to bare metal. I was given the safe for he whopping price of free. I just have to paint the exterior and build something for the interior. I'm gonna use hammerite on the exterior, but really don't know what to do for the interior. Anyone want to show off the inside of their safe so that I can get some ideas for the interior?
TIA

There was a poster on here that refurbished an old safe that he had. Maybe he'll chime in. It turned out great from what I remember.

Are you looking for a nice interior or a money saver? I think a rhino line on the inside would be pretty badass if your at bare metal. Anything with a gritty texture would be ideal IMO.

By saying bare metal on the inside, do you mean no fire protection sheet rock type stuff?

Im looking for nice, but I want some shelves and some slots for long guns, etc.

If you aren't looking for any fire resistance I would do particle board for the walls and shelves and then cover it with carpeting from Lowe's. You can also get the shelf brackets and hardware as needed.
Was the locking mechanism damaged in the fire?

Currently there is no fire protection on the inside. I will be putting sheet rock on the inside of the walls before finishing the interior. I am looking for how some are set up with spots for long guns and shelves as well.
The lock was not damaged, but my friend the locksmith put a new keypad on it anyways.

Mine was lost in a boating accident
You can image search gun safes, shelves, lighting and come up with a lot of ideas

Cannon 48 gun safe for $799 tomorrow at Tractor Supply. $200 savings. I bought mine last year for this price and enjoy it.

I had somewhat of a build log on here talking about my safe refurb.
There are 3 things you need to decide
1) Can you do it all yourself?
2) What type of budget do you have?
3) How far do you want to take the refurb?
I stripped out the inner fire-liner that was nothing more than high impact sheetrok (not the stuff you get at Home Depot). I left the outer liner there and added my own inner liner laminated with cork flooring which adds its own fire rating. If you at bare metal, if you want it to maintain the same fire rating, you likely will need to put both liners back before building shelves.

Lights are must. I bought a mulit colored led strip. Remote turns it on. Makes all the difference with light.

Very nice. I am down to bare metal, and as a former cabinet maker, I believe that I can do the work myself. I just want to know what worked for others and what are musts and must nots.
Thanks.
Thanks.
