When we were Hornets, did they used to say "that's a hornets franchise record" (including Charlotte days)?
Does our franchise history date back to the Charlotte Hornets days of L Johnson and co.?

If so, do the Charlotte Bobcats (soon to resume Charlotte hornets again) include Alonzo and L Johndon days when referring to Charlotte Hornets Franchise history?

The New Orleans basketball history now includes the hornets when they got to NOLA and all things Pels

So next year and beyond, the Charlotte hornets will never ever ever refer to a player surpassing or trailing Alonzo or Larry Johnson in hornets history on graphics or statistics?

It'd be like if saints moved to Texas and changed to Texas saints

They'd say Texas saints running back is approaching deuce mccallisters franchise record.

Then a new NFL team later created called New Orleans brass is made.
We'd have no record books.

Then Texas saints change their name to Texas tarpons.
(Still have Brees and deuc as their franchise record holders)

New Orleans brass (with a 3 year franchise history and no saints players in their records) decides to change to New Orleans Saints because the name is available.

Would the new orleans saints never be able to refer to someone compared to drew Brees in New Orleans saints franchise records?

It's very simple. Chris Paul records are Pelicans records. Bobcats' Adam Morrison played for the Hornets.

ANY NOLA players will be reflected in Pelicans history. If you played for the city of Charlotte no matter what the team name is, you will be reflected in Hornets records.

David Wesley and Baron Davis will historically be seen as playing for two franchises I guess.

The current New Orleans team has been officially deemed created in the year 2002. The press conference today said they are working with the United States Trademark Office to handle this, legally transfer everything, etc.

So how is the bobcats (new Charlotte hornets franchise) dated. Do they acknowledge their old legends from the other Charlotte hornets franchise?

Better yet, if they had won an NBA championship in the 90's, would they have hung a hornets championship banner in the arena when they got the expansion Charlotte bobcats team? I think not.

Then, would they now hang the "hypothetical Charlotte Hornets world champion banner" in their Charlotte hornets arena?

The 1988-2002 records of the Hornets, the Bobcats era, and the future era are all being merged into the current Charlotte franchise.

Anything that happened in Charlotte has been married into the new franchise.

Unfortunately the Houston Oilers records are buried in the history books of the Tennessee Titans. If the Texans annexed them like Charlotte just did, I believe the Titans would then be treated as the expansion team.

Yes. This is actually very rare to switch it back. Most time the records stick with the franchise. Personally, I think what Charlotte is doing is pretty stupid.

I agree. This is stupid. Really from the namechange on. If we wanted to change to the Pels, then fine. But we shouldn't have allowed Charlotte to have the "Hornets" name yet. Now this is all marred up into a bunch of bullshite. I guess it'll make sense in the long run, but good luck trying to claim NOLA's Hornets history down the road. 25 years from now, people will attribute all of it to Charlotte. I guess our basketball history "started" in 2013.

good, now we can get rid of the bobby phils jersey in the SKC... it always seemed incongruous for a guy who never played in the city to have his number retired... hope the next guy to join Maravich up there is CP3

bc he put up some of the best point guard seasons ever in a new orleans uniform... by the time it happens, everyone will forget how he left and only remember the good times

No it'll confuse people. Why would a hornets jersey (an opposing nba franchise) have a jersey retired in the Pelicans rafters.
It'd be like the saints having a Baltimore Ravens jersey hanging from the roof.
