Best city for live music in the South??

Obviously New Orleans is #1. (Texas is not the South in this thread, so leave out Austin.)

Atlanta is somewhere in there just because all the big acts go there.
Athens probably has a decent music scene.
Birmingham gets some real good music as well.

Atlanta sucks, but given its size, there's always good music to be seen.
Charlotte doesn't suck, but kind of the same thing. Lots of options.
Athens is great of course.

After living here for almost 2 years I'm over Austin in a lot of ways, but at the end of the day it is the best music city of any in the confederate states and it's really not all that close. NOLA is obviously great but it has far less variety of genre, far far less actually, than Austin does.
That said, as a city in general i greatly prefer NOLA.
