I know he averaged 15 ppg his sophomore season, but my question is can he play point guard for us next season? I think he was more of a SG before but I might be wrong. I know we have Tim Quarterman but if he can be effective at PG that would be big for our success next season.

No, he'll be a 2/3

With Gray and Quarterman likely splitting time at the 1

Gray who led JUCO in scoring was the #1 JUCO PG. He will play PG with Quarterman.

Hornsby is a 2/3 and will not play PG.

It will likely be

Gray getting minutes at 1 and 2
Hornsby getting minutes at only 2
Quarterman getting minutes at only 1

Hornsby will also be my favorite player coming into next year. I think he is a very dynamic scorer. Shoots well but is athletic enough to get to the hoop.

I can't wait to have Bruce coming to games also. Gonna be sweeeeet.

He will most likely play the 2. He has been training harder than everyone else on the team since transferring to LSU. He will be very productive next year.

Okay thanks guys. Mascona was saying he would be our point gaurd next year so I was kind of confused. Still salty about hickey but oh well!

Gray is great scoring point gaurd in JUCO. Haven't seen him play. Is he a guy who will look to dominate ball such as Westbrook or maybe more of a curry type who likes to pass but definitely shoots a lot. Not necessarily comparing athleticism or 3 point shooting from 2 mentioned players just trying to get a feel for gray

I've seen him play . He has been a shoot first PG his entire career . I would assume he will be asked to share the ball more than ever before. He does handle the ball well and appears to be a decent passer so the flow of the game may dictate how many he jacks up a game. He had some games last year where he shot 30+ times.

Gray was a scorer because he had noone on his team. He averaged over 30 points per game in JUCO. I expect he will play whatever role he is asked to. I have spoken with him a few times and being at LSU has been his dream for a very long time. He is excited to be here and is ready to get to it.

Being a threat to shoot AND make it is huge. Hickey was usually not a threat for either, especially not making contesting 3's or dribble penetrating. Gives the defense something else to worry about.

Gray and Hornsby are both threats to score off the dribble or pull up and shoot. Both also have solid G size. Hornsby will get to line also. And he will make 90+% of his FTs which will be divine compared to what we're used to at the line.

I will say on Gray, he had games where he had 8+ assists in JUCO. He shot the ball a ton and his averages suffered because of it. I would assume he will shoot 3s at a 35% spot or so. Nothing amazing, but not terrible.

I really feel that Hornsby will shoot 40%+ next year from three.

Well I guess I feel a little better about next season again! Hopefully Robinson can make a positive impact even with limited minutes

That's the big kicker for me.

I think the guard trio is better than last years. BUT I am worried about Big Elbert being ready to play down low. He won't need to carry the team, but we will need him to play defense and get rebounds.

I understand you wanting knowledge on the situation, I have just found Scona offers little to no real knowledge in most LSU related topics. Most people tend to think Hornsby will be the 2 and Gray at the 1. Both of their skill sets project more as a 2, but we need both guys on the court. Gray has the experience at the 1, and did very well handling that role in JUCO, so I would guess that is why he would assume the 1 role. Most things I have read on Hornsby state he is a solid shooter, especially from range, and really has always been a 2/3.

Im not sure if you mean "pure shooter" as all he does is shoot or just saying that he is a good shooter. I saw him in the LSU slam dunk contest before last season and I'll tell you he is more than just a shooter. The kid has crazy hops and is very athletic.

But I do think he is a very devoted shooter and will be great. He needs to get to the line (shooting 93% duh) so we will want him driving to the lane.

Hornsby is a work horse. As a freshman he only made 21/33 FTs for 64%... As a soph he made 99/107 for 92.5%.

107 FTs would be 3rd on LSU last season behind JOB and Mickey. 99FT makes would have been second. So I wouldn't consider him just a jump shooter.

I mean it in the sense that his shot if very pure and "wet" haha Great form, quick get off, and is very consistent (should be around or above 40% from 3). I worked at the PMAC for the past 2 years as a student worker. I watched Keith in practices and his shot is like Stringer (smooth stroke) but more consistent haha I like him at the 2 because Gray can drive and kick to Hornsby who can knock em down and frequently.

Just making sure.

You work for Dreyfus?

I worked in the PMAC for a year in 07. Claim to fame is I struck out Taz Mitchel in whiffle ball in the PMAC before one of their practices.

SouthOfSouth... We may know each other hahahaha Well through people. Yeah I worked for Drey. Greatest student job on campus. Lounging for 20 hours was awesome. Started in 09 or 10, left for a little then went back.

ETA: Guys your may know who I knew... Juice, Rage, Shaggy, Spirit, Dex?

My favorite was doing the court. Would get 100 bucks for like 30 minutes of work. Plus being able to say you were the person who laid the court was pretty cool.

Not that I can remember. There was a pretty big changing of the guard around my end time. The one name I would remember is a guy who had the same name as an olympic sprinter and the initials of the greatest basketball player ever.

No clue haha They changed the floors to $45. Rigging it where it is at. You go up in the roof, change the motors around for whatever the set up requires and get paid $100. Only happens once a semester for graduations. That is the gig to get now. I worked my own graduation week, got 20 hours clock in, a floor, a strike, 2 riggings, and a set. Made like $700 that week alone haha
