Using data from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, Ben Blatt at Slate has created several language maps of the US that go beyond just English and Spanish. There are only seven states in which Spanish is not the second most commonly spoken language: Yupik in Alaska, Tagalog in Hawaii, German in North Dakota, and French in Louisiana, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.
Found this interesting and thought I would share. Nice to see Louisiana holding out.

Tagalog comes from the Philippines. I'm not surprised by that one. I grew up in LV and the amount of Philippines that was there was staggering at times.

But who learns that language in college. The citizens speak both Mandarin and English part time, and I was thinking simply from the people who learned Mandarin in Cali that that would put then over the top.

WTF? VA must be decided entirely by northern Virginia (by far the most dense and immigrant-heavy section of the state), because I grew up elsewhere in the state and never heard of our Korean population.

French in Mississippi? I would have thought some form of Asian.
The only people I hear speak French in Mississippi are the tourists from France.

There is a huge Korean population outside Arlington. Whole Koreatown. Some great Korean BBQ spots.
