Is my thermostat shot?

I installed a programmable thermostat in December. It didn't work like I thought it would, but it worked fine in manual mode.
This morning, I accidentally hit the button that turned the program on. I get home this afternoon and try to switch it back to manual. Air won't come on for either setting.
The guy from Bangladesh at Honeywell's 800 number was helpless.
What's the easiest way to fix this? Replace the POS thermostat?

The display still works.
It's five months old, I wouldn't think it's the batteries.

pretty quick cheap trouble shoot, I don't think it will work properly with a bad battery

Changed the batteries. No dice.

try powering it down, wait a few minutes, then power up, might still have to wait a few for the logic to reset

Also try to find the official way to correctly reset it. Prob online if lost owners manual. I have a different brand but have had to reset it a couple times over the last 4 or 5 years. Also check breaker to condensor fan unit and blower. One or both will be on different breakers

Mine works with no battery. Aren't they only like $12?

I use this system and it's the bomb.
I've given several Nests as house-warming presents to folks, I've yet to have a bad report. Think iPad for your house.

I just bought a nest for my house. I'll let you know how it works

can't speak for them all, but mine(programmable, but nothing special,) needs a good battery in the circuit, central ac's are pretty simple systems though

My AC did the same thing a couple of weeks ago and it turned out to be a bad thermostat. The thermostat display looked completely normal.
Go to the store and get a cheap thermostat to see if that fixes the problem.
