Tiger Stadium Expansion "Worth Every Penny" - Joe Alleva

LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva acknowledged today that the ongoing $87 million south end zone expansion at Tiger Stadium is a "huge investment," but he predicts "it's going to be worth every penny." And while the new seats at the very top of the addition—which will take total stadium capacity from 92,600 to a little over 100,000—will be reserved for visiting teams' fans, Alleva says they could also be made available as "very discounted" seats for LSU fans if opposing teams don't fill them.

The math says it is a smart move if they only pay 87 million for 8k extra seats.

Not to mention most of the seats are luxury box seating.

If you do not have a parking pass now, better start working on getting one.

Touché
Allow me to rephrase please.
Lsu football has been in this business long enough that they wouldn't proceed with such an expensive project without knowing before hand that it would be worth the price.

All those boxes have already been sold to major corporations.

Took a ride down Nicholson today to get a feel for the new expansion... the stadium is terrifically imposing now.
Also jogged a little on the levee... you can see the new southeast corner scoreboard from there... and it looks much more impressive in person than in the photos. In fact, it might be fun to watch some live replays on Saturday nights from there.
I'm excited.

Do the math on about 40 new suites and about 30% of the seats in a new Stadium Club... not many cheap seats here.

There are plenty of professional sports franchises that lose money annually. The owner is usually some billionaire that bought his way into the league purchasing a small market team to quench his ego and a need for another hobby. For the most part, they don't care all that much about losing money annually. They usually recoup their losses when they sell.

LSU won't discount until people stop coming and that isn't happening anytime soon.

True, but they are losing more fans to TV, every year that will never come back..

Agreed. I know it only added 8k seats, but it seemed to make the stadium seem much larger than that after attending the spring game and passing by the other day. It's like Jaws doubled in size and grew a couple extra rows of chompers. It was already intimidating as frick but now it's just an outright monster.
