I'm not a Cubs fan, but I wish the Cubs were more successful

this forced rivalry with the Reds is 1) fake and 2) like playing a slightly crappier Cardinals team - Triple A Memphis Redbirds perhaps.
The Cardinals need the Cubs to be relevant again so that we have a true rival to properly hate again.
I just can't bring myself to hate the Reds because historically they haven't mattered. They've never really been relevant.

Neither the Cubs or Reds have been relevant when compared to the Cardinals or Yankees.
However, the rivalry between the teams is what I was talking about...plain and simple the rivalry with the Reds just doesn't compare to the historic rivalry with the Cubs. Never will.
It sucks that we have to make believe that the Reds are a legitimate rival until the Cubs become a division contender again.
