What can be done about the talent level of underclass men declaring early?

I saw a few tweets this morning from McShay saying about 30% of those guys went undrafted. That is absolutely nuts to me. If you're declaring early you better be damn sure you're at least getting drafted. You've now ruined your chance to come back and raise your stock back up and you'll most likely be floating from team to team on practice squads.

What can be done to help this? I feel like is going to take it's toll, albeit not league changing, but in that the talent will watered down a bit.

What can the league put in place to deter the college ranks from basically being three and done for just about anyone? Declaring early isn't anything special anymore. Milestones players have to hit? Some kind of serious analytics on their projected stock? What about letting guys come back to school if they do go undrafted?

To me this hurts the school they left early from, themselves in that they were too impatient to work on their craft, and the NFL for getting guys that still won't be ready for another couple years.

Stop letting douche bags like Todd McShay "project" from their sophomore years.

Who was the Ole Miss QB in 09 that declared for the NFL draft as a junior because McShay's projections of him being the #1 QB taken? Yeah..that QB wasn't even drafted if I'm not mistaken.

Jevon Snead is his name

Stop having the shitty hangers-on in their lives give them unrealistic information about how good they really are.

Nothing. A guy like anthony johnson likely decided before last season even started he was going pro no matter what. He received a 2nd-3rd day grade, followed that up with poor workouts, and oh yeah failed a drug test. How can the league control that?

I would guess about all of those undrafted guys are so terrible in school it really does not matter; they are just speeding up their real-world lives by a year.

why don't they just eliminate declaring? you're in the draft pool as a junior automatically and if you don't like where or when you go, you can go back to school

Exactly.

Sometimes you have to let big boys make big boy decisions and live with the big boy consequences.

There's no way any team wants that. Way too much uncertainty.

Holy shite, I haven't heard that name in a while.

I think Snead returned for his senior year, but his stock plummeted drastically.

Was he eligible after the 08 season?

I'd like to see football go somewhat of the baseball route. As long as they haven't hired an agent or anything of that nature, they should be able to return to school

I've always wondered why an undrafted free agent can't return to college.

NFL draft is only 7 rounds, no way they agree to run the risk of guys returning to school.

You could possibly let guys return to school post combine though, but that may not work for schools since its after recruiting has concluded and those guys scholarship may no longer be available.

Make their families less poor and stop them from making children before the age of 21.
