quote:

A man saved Troopers an outing on the roads when he allegedly drove impaired to the Troop to file a crash report.

It happened at around 3 a.m. on Saturday, May 10th when Gonzales resident Patrick W. Ruffner, 31, called the Troop and said he had been in a recent hit-and-run accident on I-10 near Siegen Lane.

The Sergeant, who took the call, advised Ruffner to come in and fill out a report. Upon his arrival, officials say he had shown signs of being intoxicated and later, did poorly on field sobriety tests.

Troopers say Ruffner admitted that he had been drinking before the crash. They also discovered that he had been driving with a suspended license, and the vehicle Ruffner arrived in at the station was not the vehicle involved in the crash he came to report.

He was booked into the EBR Parish Prison on a 1st offense DWI charge and on operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

I iz confused...So was he the one who hit and ran or was he saying someone hit him? Or was he just turning himself in for being a dumbass?

I don't understand why the Sergeant asked him to come in. Would he a) need to see the scene of the crime and b) suspect that the person calling may be intoxicated, especially given the time of night?

Anytime you report something like that you have to go up there to fill out a report

The fact that he was drunk wasn't discovered until he showed up there to fill out his report drunk

There was a poster on this very board, I shite you not, who went to pick up his impounded car at state police hq, and was arrested for a DUI. One of the best threads ever.
