I've never had any dealings with Ms. Roper.

Perhaps someone on this board who has can enlighten us if she does a good job or not. Thanks.

The Metro Council could hold a special meeting later this month to discuss whether to oust East Baton Rouge Parish Attorney Mary Roper.

Councilman Buddy Amoroso said he and Mayor-President Pro Tem Chandler Loupe will request that a hearing on Roper’s employment be held May 28 before the council’s regular meeting.

“It’s a question of competency and do we have confidence in her remaining in this position,” Amoroso said. “What type of advice is she giving us?”

So she's a thief?

Apparently that's the debate. It seems like small potatoes - she emailed her husband some source codes so that he, allegedly, could look over to give her an opinion on the ability to copyright.

I have a feeling this much more political than just source codes emailed home.

That's what it feels like to me as well.

I really don't know. I don't see where she profited from her actions so it's unclear to me what the real issue is here.

I can understand her asking her husband for some probono advice on the copyrighting process but I don't understand why she needed to attach the software code to her email to her husband asking for the advice.

It seems to me if her intent was to defraud the city-parish by stealing the software code, she's pretty dumb to have sent it via an email which would be very easy to trace. She should have just downloaded the software to a flash drive if she wanted to hide her actions.

That's assuming she knows what she's doing.

But why did she have to give him the sourcecode for a question about copyright? That's a good question.

Agreed. Probably related to St George somehow.

Antonio makes a good point in his post above that her husband may have needed the source code so he could give her his opinion on whether the code was copyright eligible or not.

Been trying to do it since 2009. Another example of Baton Rouge's well thought out plan to prevent SG.
