I wonder how much we pay the Ethiopian staff. A dollar a day? Whoopee, they go to $1.42.

Foreign service in third world countries is almost always unaccompanied and you live on the compound for security purposes. Try that for 2 years at a time.

Message board whining is not cool.

According to the link, the raise only applied to foreign nationals working at the embassy. I would assume these people are paid the local prevailing wage or thereabouts, so we're not talking about a lot of money.
