So I been playing golf for about 6 years. Consistent low-mid 80s. I recently developed the dreadful shanks. Feel like I'm swinging smooth and 3-4 times a round it will get me. How do I fix this?? Thanks!!

you could be standing too close to the ball

Usually happens to me if I get the ball too far back in my stance/press my hands too far forward.

I'm pleased that you made it four responses into a golf thread and all the tips were useful

Put 2 balls about 2 inches apart

Address the outside ball but try to hit the inside ball on your swing

Supposed to keep you from swinging outward as much

This sounds like something I will probably try next time I'm at the range

Depends on how you are shanking the ball. Shanks aren't just caused by one thing...

The article I read said to make sure no one is too close to you on the range bc you can have some ricochets

For me, they go away as quickly as they show up

It only takes one shot to find them and only one good shot to lose them

thanks for the good tips. I shot 45 on front because of two straight holes of shanks. Shot 38 on back with no shanks and 3 birdies. It seems to be gone then will come back in middle of round

I've never had them before until about 3 weeks ago. Came close to breaking a wedge yesterday

I am battling these right now. Couldn't hit a ball to save my life the other day at the range. Went to the golf store yesterday and was shanking on the simulator. Battled through it and started finally hitting some good ones again. Bad thing is I picked up a 54* wedge and started shanking all over again. It seems when I get these it always starts with a wedge

Scheduled a lesson for sunday morning with a guy at CCLA to hopefully try and fix this crap.

I have one every now and then. Shanked a 4 iron Tues on a par 3. Tripled, shot 78. It was number 17 and I had just birdied 16. Was two under on the back until then. I think my problem is I lunge at the ball with my upper body and catch the ball on the hossell with it a bit open.

Your hands are too high at impact. Probably from outside in swing. Try the drill. Put a tee about a foot behind and 3-4 inches to left. Try to take the club back over the tee. Forcing you to take it outside to start. This will have you coming inside on your downswing and never shank.
