Through watching Fargo and The Americans I have repeatedly seen the extremely creepy teasers for this show. I finally decided to look it up and saw it was a vampire series based off of a Del Toro novel of the same name starring Corey Stoll (Russo from House of Cards).

Has anyone on here read the book or looking forward to the show? I haven't heard anything about it besides the teasers. It definitely doesn't look like they will be Twilight or True Blood vampires.

I read the books. The first one is great, second one is good, third is meh. I hope they do this series justice. The books aren't a hard read if you want to pick them up.

Yes! "The Strain" is actually the first book in a trilogy. The other two books are "The Fall" and "The Night Eternal".

The books are fantastic and I have read that Del Toro and Chuck Hogan (they wrote the books together) envision the first two books covering the first two seasons and the third book would cover two to three seasons. It is filmed in a documentary style. If the show opens like the first book does - and it better! - then I think people will be hooked immediately.

It also stars-

David Bradley (Harry Potter movies and 'Game of Thrones')
Kevin Durand (Sgt. Keamy from 'Lost')
Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings movies and 'Goonies')
Plus lots of Canadian actors as it films in Toronto.

The promo poster is awesome.

Can't wait to watch it! And since Del Toro is writing most of the episodes and directing a few, too; I have faith that it will stay true to the books.

I agree with the opening scene. They had some youtube videos for the book a few years back.

I hope they do the actual outbreak like the books.

Thanks. Sounds interesting. I might stay away from the books so I can watch the series without knowing much (as I do with GoT). Is the third book that much longer or have that much more material? That's a weird distribution of the seasons.

Is it going to be set in New York?

Yes, it will be set in New York.

It's been a while since I read the books but if I remember right the timeline of the first book only covers about three weeks or so and I think the second book covers about the same amount of time. The third book covers a much longer period of time. Just checked, book three starts with a two year time jump.

It's not your typical vampire story. It's much more like a post-apocalyptic zombie/killer virus story.

Without getting into plot details, the first two books cover the infection and the fall of civilization and the third is more the aftermath and trying to defeat the vampires.
