Challenge question in MLB

So I was under the impression managers could only challenge during the first 6 innings, and if they challenge and are successful then they get another to use within the first 6 innings...after the 6th inning it's only by request or up to the ump?
I'm watching the Cubs/dbacks game and the Cubs announcers just said a manger can challenge in the 9th if they didn't use one within the first 6 innings.

There is no inning limit on a manager if he has a challenge in his pocket.
From the 7th, the umps have the option of looking at the replay themselves.

The way I'm reading it, a manager can only challenge in the first 6 innings

This is correct...after the seventh, if a manager is out of challenges, he can request a review and the umpires can do it under their own discretion.
